    aroma

Have you had a massage lately? If you haven’t, then think about aromatherapy. Like the name suggests, the room will be filled with the scent of oils used to heal the body of a number of ailments.

That said, aromatherapy itself uses extracts created from various plants, flowers and herbs. Absorbing these smells through the nose can ease the symptoms of the complaint. Aromatherapy massage takes that one step further and allows the extracts to seep into the skin to affect changes in the body as well.

Here is how it works. If you went to an aromatherapist for a massage, he or she would ask you to fill out paperwork so they can get a profile of you and any complaints you have (stress-related conditions, headaches, digestive system and such). Depending on what you say, the choice of oils used will be different for each massage.

In Aromatherapy Massage the plant extracts need a carrier to deliver them to the skin. Mild oils like almond are used to deliver the healing herbs to your body. These are not fragrant oils like you would put on your skin as perfume. It is the oil that smells of the extract with no other chemicals added.

The oils are blended with the appropriate extracts for your condition. The smell fills the room to relax you and also enters your skin through the skilled hands of the massage therapist. Aromatherapy has the advantage of providing relief for stress-related conditions and digestive complaints without adding chemicals to your body.

There are a few additional things to know before having an aromatherapy massage. Tell the massage therapist if you have any allergies to medicines and plants. Do not eat before going as lying down on a full stomach can be unpleasant. If you are pregnant, consult a doctor before engaging in an aromatherapy massage. Anyone with blood clotting issues should abstain from massage because the pressure could dislodge a forming clot and cause serious if not fatal complications.

Aromatherapy massages mingle the healing touch of massage with the powers of natural plants and herbs.

    Get Energized with Hip-Hop Dance

Hip-hop dancing is all the rage among teenagers and young adults, but it is great for everyone. These dance moves can be put together in a routine that is great exercise for young and old alike. Get energized with a refreshing and high-powered type of dancing.

What is hip-hop dancing? It started in the neighborhoods with kids moving to their favorite music and making up dance steps. When music videos hit the air, people outside of the neighborhoods got to see what others had been doing for years. It didn’t have a name then, but today it is called hip-hop dancing.

Hip-hop is a combination of beats and rhythms from rap music, reggae, techno music, Latin dancing, tap and jazz. All of this is put together into a variety of moves. Hip-hop dancing is freestyle dancing and the moves can be done in any combination to the music. It is an expression of your style and your feelings.

Do you remember break dancing? That is a form of hip-hop dance. Nowadays, hip-hop dancing is done from the standing position and not so much on the ground. But, break dancing is still popular in big cities.
Hip-hop uses the entire body. This makes it great for overall exercise. Besides that, it is fun to move to the music. It hardly seems like exercise at all to the kids. They burn fat and calories in clubs, at home and in dance studios while enjoying themselves.

Five Rules for a Face Cleansing Routine

Part of getting rid of acne involves keeping your face as free of dirt and oils as possible. A clean face is an important step for all skin but especially acne-prone skin. Here are five rules to follow when it comes to cleaning your face properly every day.
If you are cleaning your face every day, why is your skin still having problems? For one, you might not be aware of how to clean your face. There is more to it than just lathering on soap and rinsing it off. When done right, facial cleansing will work wonders for you.

First And foremost, for an effective cleaning you must know what type of skin you have, with this little tid bit of information, you can change the life of your face!

*Know your skin type. Facial cleansers on the market today are based on what type of skin you have. There are four main types: oily, dry, normal or combination skin.
For Normal skin type: You should be using a cleanser that doesn’t change the pH of your skin.
For Oily skin type: Your skin needs a cleanser that is designed to remove excess oil.

For Dry Skin: You will need ingredients that help the skin retain more of its natural moisture.
Last but not least the Combination skin type contains areas that are both oily and dry. Usually the oily T-zone extends across the forehead and down the nose. A combination cleanser will balance out the oil in the face for increased moisture in dry areas and less shine in the T-zone.

A new baby is truly a blessing. Unfortunately, this blessed event also comes with a few extra weight gain and flaccid muscles, it is important for your health to exercise, being in shape is not all about beauty, it has more to do with the well being, and now that you are a mommy, your body must be in tip- top shape to be able to keep your baby’s hours!
When you first bring your baby home, the trick is how to get sleep and tend to your baby at the same time. The last thing you are thinking about is weight loss. After the first few months when baby begins to settle into a routine, you’ll have more time to think about your body.
Breastfeeding causes the uterus to contract and return to its normal shape a lot faster then for mothers who do not.
Moms say that they don’t have time to think about fitness even after baby learns to sleep – when baby sleeps, they clean up and get a bath. However, baby has changed his or her schedule and changing yours will benefit you and baby.

Here are five ways you CAN exercise when you have a baby:

    1. Go for a walk. Everyone needs fresh air. For a newborn, use a Snuggly to carry him if he is awake. You can talk to him while you walk. If baby is asleep or on the edge of sleep, bundle him up in a stroller and hit the pavement. Jog strollers allow more ambitious moms who would rather run to do so along with baby.
    2. Do some baby weightlifting. Who needs barbells when you have a new baby in the house? If baby is awake, use him to strengthen those muscles. Kegel exercises strengthen the pelvic floor for birth but also help get those out-of-position muscles back in shape. Place baby on your abdomen when doing crunches. Use him as your weight for bicep curls, military presses (carefully), and chest presses.
    3. Put in a DVD. The great thing about DVDs is that they can be stopped and started with the touch of a button. Starting slow with your workouts will ensure you will stay with them. Try a twenty-minute program if that is all you have time for. As baby sleeps longer, increase the length of your workout.
    4. Choose a gym with child care. Some women enjoy taking fitness classes. Getting out with others makes you feel like a real person again. A gym that has child care allows you to exercise without worrying that baby will wake up and interrupt.
    5. Try water aerobics. You and your baby can take a water class. Babies live in water for nine months so they are used to it. Keep them in the water with you as you kick, twist and jog off the pounds. You might not sweat, but working the body in the water is a great resistance workout.

So, how can you prevent your acne from popping out, and prevent yourself from popping them?

You should try to eat foods that are wholesome and filled with natural ingredients. Processed foods contain many chemical preservatives that are hard for the human body to digest. It can cause problems when we eat too much. Eating vegetables and whole grains provides useful vitamins and fiber that aid in digestion and other bodily functions.

The glycemic index is the system that rates carbohydrates based on how they raise blood sugar. Foods with a high glycemic index spike the blood sugar, which gives us a rush of adrenalin but also a quick let down after about thirty minutes or so. On the other hand, carbohydrates with a low glycemic index keep the blood sugar steady as it is supposed to be.

You want the second type of carbohydrates in your diet. Fiber helps remove fat from the foods you eat and with fewer impurities and more vitamins and minerals in your system your skin will look and feel much healthier.

Changing your diet is an important step in preventing future acne outbreaks. Replace the processed foods with more natural choices for overall health and you will see and feel the difference!

    We all hate them!
Acne affects adults and teenagers alike! Trust me, they do not discriminate! If you are prone to acne, maybe your diet can reduce the incidence of it in your life.

Acne can be caused by a poor diet. Everyone assumed eating too much chocolate or candy caused acne breakouts on the face. Although that myth was debunked, it doesn’t mean that your way of eating won’t have any bearing on preventing acne.

Acne can have many causes. They all work together to make you miserable with whiteheads and blackheads. But the basis is that acne is caused by excess sebum (oils) clogging pores that contain hair follicles.

Metabolic changes can affect your skin. Stress can cause the types of changes in hormones that can trigger acne. Eating a diet high in fat and processed carbohydrates, with a high glycemic index, can bring about the same changes in your body that cause acne outbreaks.

Hence, we are back to the diet question. It could be the difference in your acne. Diet alone won’t stop acne from being a problem but it does help tremendously.

Your skin is an organ. When you feed not-so-good things to your body, your organs show the damage. For acne sufferers, that means your skin shows the result. Now, your acne can be a combination of unfortunate genes and diet, but changing your diet could help reduce your acne.

    Beauty without Cruelty

Also, to our mind, natural makeup means not only ingredients which are healthy and natural, but which have also not been tested on animals. And no, they don’t just dab it on their fur, they inject it into their eyes, constantly expose their even more sensitive skin to it, and generally torture the animals they use for testing.

You can try the beauty without cruelty line of products, or the Body Shop products that have been around for decades, with good reason. You may ened up paying more, but this is your health and the safety of harmless animals we are talking about, not vanity and saving money at the expense of the planet.

Also beware of products that say they were not tested on animals-the finished product might not have been, but the chemical components they are using often have been.

Also consider products like Oil of Olay, which uses worm secretions, or products with silk extracts, which come from silk worms. Even if you are not that squeamish about these products, do you really want to exploit living creatures in such a way? You don’t even want to know where your mascara comes from if it is not all natural….

The more educated you are about the products you use, the better able you will be to make smart choices for your health, and safety.

    Is It Really Natural?

In light of the increased awareness of the dangers of certain chemicals, some companies have begun to label their products “safe” and “natural.”

The problem is that these terms are not regulated either. They are mainly media hype to try to sell more products. Unlike terms used in food labeling, these words can appear on cosmetics packaging without any specific requirements. So it is up to us to read labels and research the companies that we buy cosmetics from.

Some companies have shown their dedication to eliminating dangerous chemicals in their products by signing the Compact for Safe Cosmetics. This is a pledge to replace hazardous chemicals in their products with safe alternatives within three years. While the compact is not overseen by the government, it does have strict requirements for signers.

Natural makeup is not yet the norm, but it is becoming more popular. And as more users learn of the dangers of chemicals commonly used in cosmetics, it can only become more mainstream.

Until then, it’s up to us to seek out companies that care about their customers enough to avoid using hazardous ingredients. Read the labels, and don’t just jump on the latest fashion bandwagon for such items as ‘minerals’. Fashion trends often spawn much cheaper imitations that can have disasterous consequences for our skin.

Similarly, Botox injections are actually injection of botulin poison, which is commonly used to kill rats. No one has done any long terms safety studies on the effects of putting that in our bodies.

There are many reasons why natural makeup is better for our health. These reasons include:

    * Some of the chemicals used in cosmetics are known to be dangerous on their own. Mercury, for example, is hazardous to our health in numerous ways, yet it continues to be used in cosmetics and deodorants (and is in increasing amounts in our food chain as well). Other hazardous chemicals found in makeup include lead acetate, formaldehyde, tolulene, phthalates and petrochemicals (Vaseline is PETROLEUM jelly—it comes from oil). Many of the harmful chemicals have long, obscure names that hide the true nature of what is in them.

    * Many chemicals are not particularly harmful on their own, but can form dangerous compounds when combined with other chemicals. So a chemical in your foundation could come into contact with a chemical in your blush and create a new, hazardous chemical.

    * While one exposure to a small amount of a given chemical is unlikely to cause major harm, daily use of cosmetics containing these chemicals allows them to build up in our bodies. This can lead to hormonal imbalances, reproductive problems, cancer and more. Our skin is the largest organ in the body, and so whatever we are doing to it with makeup, soaps, creams and lotions, affects the whole body. The chemicals absorb into it simply by sitting on the skin.

If you don’t believe this, just think of how many medicines are administered by so-called ‘derma patches’ which you stick on the skin, such as birth control patches, anti-smoking, or pain relief patches. They rely on the highly absorbent nature of human skin to give the dose of medicine in the patch.

Therefore, any cream or lotion with harmful chemicals can equally be absorbed into the body.

∑ Natural products are less likely to cause sensitivity. It is possible to develop an allergy to anything, but synthetic chemicals are more likely to cause adverse reactions, especially over time. People with sensitive skin will suffer most. Then, ironically, they will start putting even more chemicals on their skin to try to treat their rash.
