September 17th, 2009Anxiety, Exercise, General, Natural Beauty, Weight LossAnorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by excessive fear of gaining weight. The fear drives the sufferer to do whatever they can, no matter how extreme, to keep the weight off. The catch here is that their distorted view of their body prevents them from ever losing enough weight.
Doctors don’t know what causes anorexia nervosa. Lately the increase in the prevalence of the condition has been blamed on society’s image of beauty. When young girls (and boys), see the beautiful bodies of models gracing the covers of magazines and the movie screen, their own inadequacies about their body surface.
Family dynamics have also been seen as a cause. In families where communication is poor and affection withheld, kids may seek to find control, the control is the food that they eat. Having high expectations that put undue pressure on the child can also lead to eating disorders.Anorexics may begin with a diet but it doesn’t end there. The obsession with their weight spurs them on to eat fewer and fewer meals. They stop their hunger by drinking water or exercising more. Even when the numbers on the scale drop, their lack of self-esteem won’t let them stop.
Because of their perceived problem, they may shy away from social gatherings, especially those that involve food. In school, they may separate from their friends as the condition takes over their lives. Any excuse is used to keep them out of family functions.

Hello all!
We really hope you are enjoying our blog. We at Goddess strive to bring you the most full information about healthy living. Lately we have noticed trends and eating habits that are not healthy for anyone. It is a misconception to think only woman suffer from eating disorders. In today’s society the fight to stay on top comes from both the male and female counterparts. Bulimia, anorexia, depression these diseases do not pick the sexes they want to attack. Woman and men have different ways to deal with each situation, but please keep in mind we can all be affected!
For the next few articles we are going to talk about, Bulimia and Anorexia0 Nervosa and how they affect both female and males.
Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binging and purging of food. Bulimics have a poor self-image and the disorder is an extension of that. Women as well as men suffer from this type of eating disorder.
Bulimia nervosa can sometimes begin as a way to finally get off the roller coaster of dieting. Many bulimics have dieted before but without sustained success. They begin again, only this time, they take extreme measures to try to achieve their desired body image.
While bulimia affects mostly women in the United States, a fair percentage of men have also been identified as bulimic. Bulimics are prone to compulsions. When they eat, they do it in secret and are out of control. They eat until they have stuffed as much food in themselves as they can. The binging can be due to emotional stress within their peer group or at home.
After eating as much as they can, they will immediately vomit. Vomiting may remove the evidence in their mind that they were ever out of control in the first place. Even after normal meals they will excuse themselves and go to the bathroom where they force themselves to throw up.
You may notice that your son, daughter or friend is bulimic. They may have been previously addicted to something else like drugs or alcohol. Their weight will fluctuate but it doesn’t usually reach the low level of a person suffering from anorexia nervosa.

Now That you know what Juice Diets are, here are a few pointers in how to make the perfect menu for your diet:
Some ingredients which can be used in juice fasts are:
Vegetables: celery, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, beets, and sweet potatoes.
Greens: parsley, beet greens, chard, kale, dandelion leaf and spinach.
Herbs: fennel, spearmint, yucca root, basil, ginger, peppermint, green onion, chili pepper.
Fruits: grapes, apples, citrus, Açaí berry.
Extras: wheat grass juice, spirulina, complete vitamin & mineral supplement, psyllium husks.
Some side effects of a juice fast need mentioning here. Some common but temporary side effects include headaches, hypoglycemia, acne, tiredness, bad breath and an increase in body odor. Others could include dizziness or fainting, low blood pressure, weight loss, hunger, heart palpitations, vomiting and kidney problems. If you experience any of these side effects or any situation worsens contact a medical professional immediately.
During a juice fast the stomach shrinks to its original size, about the size of your fist. After only three days of simply ingesting raw organic and fresh juices and water, you will lose those cravings for solid foods.
Your mind might try to tell you differently; however, your body doesn’t need more at this time. While just drinking your food, your stomach is able to get some well-deserved rest, allowing your colon to shed old compacted material which could be waiting there to cause future disease.
If you are considering a diet which is more than just counting calories, this extreme detox diet could be the one for you. Using juices in this diet beneficially provides the antioxidants and vitamins required to keep you healthy for the duration.

July 3rd, 2009Exercise, General, Weight LossWhey protein powders are quite popular as a supplement in the diets of athletes and bodybuilders. Proteins are an essential factor in the repair and building of muscle. A supplement of protein in your diet is important – not only to protect you from injury but especially for those who are looking to build more muscle.
The most common form found is whey protein. It’s a product derived from milk used during the cheese-making process whey protein is collected and separated from the cheese. It is quite easy to frequently find fantastic deals on this already inexpensive product.
While searching for whey protein powders, you will see just how many different types are out there. Whey protein concentrates (the least expensive) and whey protein isolates are the most common. The purity of the protein powder in the concentrated form is approximately 75% protein by weight.
Although types containing a higher quality by weight will be of higher quality and have better absorption rates into your body but they will carry a heavier price tag as well.
Our bodies need amino acids in order to be used as fuel for the rebuilding of muscles. Whey protein happens to contain these amino acids at the appropriate level for rapid intake and usage. This helps to increase the response from both hormones and cells, but it must be consumed immediately following a workout. Not only will this assist in building muscle – it will also enhance muscle endurance while reducing any deterioration. These amino acids will have the ability to be metabolized directly into the muscle tissue rather than the liver as with other amino acids.
It’s not to be assumed, however, that you will become bigger with larger amounts of protein consumed – no matter what your lifestyle is. Leading a sedentary lifestyle isn’t going to make the whey protein achieve anything miraculous. The more exercise you do, the more protein you need. It is recommended that strength athletes consume an approximate 0.7 to 0.8 grams of protein for each pound of body weight. However, going over this amount will only lead to extra fat to burn, no matter how much strength training you intend on doing.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a healing therapy that works with modern medical techniques, hence the name “complementary”. Reiki uses hands-on techniques to channel energy from the Reiki master to the client and thus heal them. With this form of healing, it is not only the energy of the receiver but also the energy and balance of the Reiki healer.
Reiki healing works to restore the energy flow or ki (pronounced chee) within the body. Stress can obstruct the flow of energy throughout the body. If there is disease going on in the body, energy flow or ki can be low and the body can still be out of balance. The Reiki healer introduces energy from a limitless divine source into the body of the client to aid in healing the body.
This form of healing was originally started in Tibet. A renewed form of the healing technique was developed by a Japanese Buddhist and named Reiki which means universal life force energy.
A Reiki master is familiar with the energy flow of the body and how they can tap into and change that energy with their own energy through the laying on of hands. Through Reiki training, practitioners learn about how to channel that energy through intention. When this intention is strong, a Reiki healer can affect changes in the body of an individual even from far away without physical contact taking place.
Reiki masters use their training to benefit the body in many ways:
* Better sleep patterns

When considering the many martial arts one can choose to practice, Aikido is still on of the most popular choices in the United States today. Aikido is so rich in both tradition and history, yet it is newer than most others. This art originally started in Japan at some point in the 1940s.
Aikido’s founder, Morihei Ueshiba (often known as Great Teacher or O Sensei) was born on December 14, 1883. Growing up in modern Japan, he was witness to much violence, including some local vandals attacking his own father. It was at this time he decided to grow strong enough to seek revenge for his father’s sake, spending as much time as possible training in martial arts. He received numerous certificates in jujitsu, fencing and spear fighting during this time of intense physical training.
Even with all of his achievements he felt there should be more to it. Turning to religion, he hoped to find some greater sense of significance of life. Yet he did not stop his training of martial arts during this time. Ueshiba founded the martial art of Aikido by joining his religious beliefs with his intense trainings in martial arts. This style was known as aikibudo until around 1942, when he chose to go with the name of Aikido. It was the incorporation of jujitsu, aiki-jujitsu along with spear and sword fighting.
The fundamental requirements for the practice of Aikido are dedication and respect in regards to the techniques and principles of the art. Other than these requirements, anyone of any age or strength can participate in the practice. There are no limits except those you impose upon yourself.
The movements related to the techniques of Aikido are derived from movements used while wielding the Japanese sword or spear fighting arts. The bokken (replica sword) and the jo (a stick) are used in practice as aids to enhance the understanding and skill required for fluid use of techniques.

Exercise is a healthy way to stay fit during pregnancy. For a healthy woman, exercise strengthens muscles for a shorter labor and easier delivery.
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, exercise is safe in moderation. There are times when certain conditions present themselves during pregnancy. If you begin to spot or cramp, see your doctor immediately. It could be nothing but it could also signal problems with the cervix or placenta. Any exercise will have to be stopped from that point on.
A pregnant woman may develop gestational diabetes. This occurs when you experience high levels of blood sugar during pregnancy. The added hormones produced by the placenta during pregnancy can cause insulin resistance. Insulin is being produced but it is having no effect in the body. As a result, more and more insulin is produced, increasing the blood sugar.
Previous medical conditions before pregnancy can prohibit exercise during pregnancy. While you managed your high blood pressure or asthma before pregnancy, it becomes a more critical situation when a baby is present. Any type of exercise can increase your blood pressure to an unsafe level for your baby.
Asthma makes it hard to breathe under the best of circumstances and your lower level of oxygen affects the baby too. It is important to keep asthma under control as much as possible.
Heart disease is another medical condition that prohibits exercise. Depending on your heart condition, bed rest may be advised. Physical activity could cause further heart problems that would compromise your pregnancy.
When you become pregnant, your doctor will take a detailed history. If you have had a history of miscarriages, exercise will be taken off the table. Any increase in physical activity could contribute to another miscarriage. It is a chance a doctor won’t take with your health and that of your unborn child.
Each month you go in to see your doctor for an exam, inform him of changes to your body. Any new developments that will threaten you or your baby can keep you from being permitted to exercise. Listen to your doctor’s advice for your protection.
Certain medical conditions may prohibit exercise during pregnancy. Even if you exercised before pregnancy, follow the doctor’s orders for a healthy pregnancy.
